Byzantine art

Refers to the art and architecture of the [[Byzantine Empire]] (about 330–1453 CE). It’s known for its religious themes, gold backgrounds, flat, stylized figures, and mosaics that emphasize spirituality over realism.

Byzantine artwork is still maintained in Eastern Orthodox countries, specifically Greece, Cyprus, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, and Russia.
